Tarot reading involves various cards used to gain insight into the current and possible future situations of the seeker. These cards and predictions thus interpreted are guided by a spiritual force, and divine powers. The Tarot deck usually carries 78 cards and every card has it unique meaning. We will talk about a particular card which has fascinated lots of tarot readers and the question seekers; it is the Thirteenth Card in the Deck called the “Death”. This sound scary as in real life death symbolizes the end and null. No one knows what happens after death and there are various theories involving the afterlife or life after death. We will take a view of this Death tarot card through various aspects.

The Picture & Symbols: The picture on the Card shows a Skeleton holding a flag on a white Horse. We can see the card number thirteen on the top. Some death tarot card pictures show people dying on the ground, some show the pictures of screaming people and blood coming out of their bodies as if someone has just hit the killing blow. But the most significant picture on the tarot card is the picture of rising sun. We may not find this picture in the entire death tarot card collection but in most Death tarot cards the rising sun is prominent. There is another symbol on the Death tarot card which is White rose. This is the symbol of purity and humbleness. The beauty is present there as well. But we should always remember that every rose have thorns too.

Meanings: Death tarot card is not considered so bad while interpreting the meaning of the card with respect to particular situation. But yes if someone is asking the question about a sick person or family member with an ailment then it may symbolize the proceedings directing in the wrong direction. People often ask the questions about their careers or relations. In these circumstances this card symbolizes the end of one and the beginning of the other. It may mean someone is leaving a particular job and getting a new one. Someone may be breaking a relation with one partner and moving towards a new relation or partner. The death brings a new beginning and this is indicated by the rising sun at the back. Rising sun tells the seeker that if there is death there is new beginnings as well. Every dark corner has a bright light as well. It’s just like a horror movie in which a character has struggled whole night fighting and handling a ghost and in the end with the sunrise the ghost dies and bring a new day and new life.

Karma: Death Tarot card also carries characteristics of karmic energies. In a karma theory a person dies and takes a new form in next life and dies again in that life and takes a new life form again and this cycle goes on. What have been done in past; a soul will reap in this life until the soul progresses higher and higher in the realm of self consciousness and self realization. If we relate this with the Death card and assume that questions are being asked for Health, Career and Love/Relations the card signifies what a person did in past will reap now. A person who drinks a lot or smoke a lot will pay the price if the health is under risk due to these addictions. A person who has studied well in past and thus acquired the knowledge to the level where he or she can take the risk and effort of climbing the career ladder to higher level would do so. In relation, a person will also bear the fruit of their positive or negative behavior which they showed in their past relations.

White Rose: Taking the white rose into consideration as I said earlier every rose comes with thorns and thus in the path of new beginnings a seeker may experience some obstacles on the way. We could relate this to another saying “God helps those who help themselves”. In the path of progress there are always some obstacles and hurdles which come in the way and the person who can go past these hurdles will conquer the death.

Change is the essence of death tarot card. When this tarot card is viewed in the tarot reading the seeker should consider the factors which may lead to the change in the life. They need to think hard what kind of changes is anticipated in their life in which areas of life whether these areas being Love, Career, Health, Business, Spiritual, Political, Academic, General Behavior, Philanthropic, Mental or Physical. In the end the seeker must ask if they are ready to take this change with bravery or they cannot withstand the hurdles this change may bring forth. If the seeker is able to accept the change and the consequences related to this change just like warrior and is willing to give hundred percent effort to get to the goal then this card will show them the new light in the darkness: solution for the problem they are seeking.
